How Yannick brought data to life and why companies should trust young talent

At NN Insurance, everything revolves around insight and security. But how do you ensure that a mountain of data doesn’t become overwhelming, but instead provides clear direction? That was precisely the challenge that Yannick Pambu, Data Trainee, took on. Read on to discover how he reflects on his mission and how he became a valuable asset to NN.

From raw data to strategic decisions

Yannick quickly realized that he wanted to do more than just technical analyses. He saw opportunities to improve workflows and accelerate financial processes. “My strength lies in making data understandable and actionable,” he explains. “Many companies have a wealth of information but don’t always know how to leverage it effectively. That was my challenge at NN.”

His assignment went beyond building dashboards. He automated fund orders, created import files for the Portfolio Management System (GPMS), and became the go-to technical expert for Excel integrations and Power Apps. His impact? Processes that were previously manual became streamlined, significantly reducing error margins.

“I feel trusted by my manager and colleagues. They value my expertise and give me the space to approach things my way.”

Turning doubt into trust

Every change faces resistance, and NN was no exception. Initially, colleagues were skeptical: “Another new tool, another system to learn?” But Yannick persevered. “I convinced them by developing an initial dashboard and automation that immediately added value,” he says. Once colleagues saw how clear and user-friendly it was, they started asking questions, showing interest, and eventually adopting it themselves.

The real turning point? When not only his team but also other departments became interested. “It felt like a victory when I was invited to present my optimizations to a broader audience within NN. What started as a pilot project grew into a transformation with impact across multiple teams. My Power BI solutions sparked interest in other teams within NN, making data-driven work increasingly the norm.”

The Ormit Talent approach in action

Ormit Talent prepares young professionals for complex challenges in companies. Before his traineeship, Yannick had never worked with Power BI, but he discovered it during an internal Ormit project. Thanks to training, coaching, and the right support, he developed his expertise and gained confidence. “Before starting this traineeship, I would often overthink before speaking. Now I know when to step up and take the lead.”

His time at Ormit gave him not only technical skills but also insights into driving change. “You have data, but you also have people. And you need to bring those people along with you.”

From trainee to permanent asset

After his traineeship, Yannick was offered the opportunity to stay at NN. Why did he say yes? “The projects align with what I love doing. I feel trusted by my manager and colleagues. They value my expertise and give me the space to approach things my way.”

His manager had a clear reason for keeping him on board: as a former Ormit trainee himself, he knew firsthand the value that Yannick could bring. “He understood the process and knew how well our profiles are prepared for challenges like these.”
